Hunker
My son Austin called this morning and told us
that he’d read one site that was calling this period of time The Great Hunkering, since we’re all really sort of hunkering down and waiting it out.  We loved that name! So today’s Word of Encouragement, since I already did “Wait”, is “Hunker”.  No scripture that I’ve read uses the word “hunker”, so this is just a little list of ideas for you. Some things that are fun and lighthearted for you and your family.

Things to do during the Great Hunkering:

·Babylon Bee
If you don’t already know about it, Babylon Bee is a news satire site that bills itself as "the world’s best satire site, totally inerrant in all its truth claims." They have satirical news articles, cartoons, etc about religion, current events and well-known figures. It’s sure to give you a chuckle, if not a full-on bellylaugh.  https://babylonbee.com/

·Facebook
If you have a Facebook account, cruise it. There are lots of silly things going on there right now, like the “I Spy” game, YouTube clips from people doing satire about the down-time, and you can connect with friends safely. Find some public groups that involve things you are interested in. I’m part of a gastric bypass group, Anderson rummage sale group, military brats group. You get the idea.

·Facebook Ideas & Fun Group
A Facebook group I found is called Ideas & Fun and they have some awesome ideas for fun! (Lol. Didn’t mean that to come out that way, really.) There are ideas for gardens, kids rooms, fun foods to make. I even found a rock garden idea that I, with my deadly-black thumb could do!

·Facebook Cookbook Group
Our Cadiz FB page will soon have another group you can request to join, the Cadiz Cookbook group will be a recipe swap, which could be really timely now. Start prepping your favorites. Maybe come up with a few really ingenious ideas using strange combinations for those times you run out of stuff and the store shelf is empty. I’ll have that up and running next week.

·Be Creative
Try something new. Refinish/repurpose a piece of furniture and make it gorgeous. Paint rocks for your new garden that even I can’t kill. Try some sidewalk chalk art and take a picture for your Facebook.  Google some stay-at-home ideas and see what you come up with. Here’s one site I found for activities for kids and families:  https://www.apieceofrainbow.com/creative-stay-at-home-activities-for-kids-family/

·Clean out your garage…finally
Yep, that’s what I’m planning on. Most of you know we moved into Mom’s house last summer so we could sell ours. It took a long time to get everything cleared out after we’d moved her into Sugar Fork’s beautiful Memory Care unit. I still have a few closets, cabinets and half a garage to do so I’m planning to start that next week. Maybe I’ll finally be able to put cars in it when I’m done!

·Do some word puzzles
There are lots of sites out there with free printable puzzles, ranging from really easy kids puzzles to really challenging ones for grown ups.  Here’s a couple sites I found:
for kids…https://www.puzzles-to-print.com/crossword-puzzles-for-kids/
for grown ups…https://www.thesprucecrafts.com/free-hard-word-searches-1357162

·Color your world!
There are lots of sites to find fun coloring pages, for artists of all ages. I myself have an Etsy store with coloring pages straight from my iPad Pro. I’m a little short at the moment but plan on uploading a lot more this weekend. Here’s my store, named Coloring Memories, in honor of my mother:  https://www.etsy.com/shop/ColoringMemories?ref=shop_sugg

·Stay in touch
However you can…call, text, video chat, Facebook, Tweet, Instagram, SnapChat. I’m one who could easily work at home forever and turn into a hermit, so I’m spending extra effort trying to stay in touch with everyone I can. I’m working hard to help keep you all connected and uplifted.

There are so many wonderful things we can do with this Great Hunkering time. Make the most of it.  Here’s another site with some boredom busters for the whole family: https://familyeguide.com/boredom-busters-110-fun-at-home-activities-for-families-kids-2/

Well it’s the end of week two of isolation for me and I am actually starting to get a tad antsy…I’ve done the Twist in the kitchen, the Hokey-Pokey in the living room and irritated the only cat not smart enough to go into hiding. Think I’ll go outside and take a power-walk…while appropriately distanced, of course.

Praying that you stay safe and well. And please…stay home unless you need supplies. Like toilet paper. Ha! Thought I was going to get through one of these without mentioning it didn’t you!
